Residents advised of roadworks in Cape Town City Centre, District Six, Bo-Kaap and Paarden Eiland

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise residents, road users and businesses of roadworks in the Cape Town City Centre; District Six; Bo-Kaap and Paarden Eiland areas. The work is planned to take place from today, 5 November 2025 until Saturday, 31 January 2026. Read more below:
The work will take place between 07:00 and 17:00 from Monday to Saturday, with some required night work between 17:00 and 05:00.
‘The planned roadworks for these areas form part of our continuous effort to maintain and improve our road infrastructure in the CBD and surrounding areas. Residents and business owners can expect some noise and activity while these works are under way. We thank you in advance for your patience. Temporary lane closures may be in place at times to allow our teams to carry out certain aspects of the work. We advise that motorists plan their routes in advance and make use of alternative roads where possible, to minimise any inconvenience during this time,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The following roads will be affected:
District Six:
- Fawley Terrace and Keizergracht Road
Bo-Kaap:
- Buitengracht Street; Buiten Street; Lion Street; Wale Street; Yusuf Drive; Astana Street; Church Street; Longmarket Street and Upper Leeuwen Street
Cape Town City Centre:
- Hudson Street; Barrack Street; Caledon Street; Invery Place; Harrington Street; Bree Street; Waterkant Street; Loop Street; Mediterranean Street; Martin Hamerschlag Way; Jack Craig Street; Jan Smuts Street and DF Malan Street
Paarden Eiland:
-Marine Drive (Inbound)
The project will involve the following aspects:
- Road resurfacing; patching and overlaying sections of the roadway
- Replacement of damaged kerbs; channels and catchpits and the raising of manholes where necessary
- Road marking with retro-reflective paint
- General maintenance on concrete; cobble and block paving
- Reinstatement of damaged stormwater inlets
- General cleaning of stormwater infrastructure to improve drainage efficiency
